Comparing E-commerce Agency Quotes: Payments, Delivery, Product Import and Support

A store quote should describe how a product becomes an order and how your team fulfils it. Compare identical catalogue and operational requirements. A low price for storefront design is not equivalent to a complete commerce project.

Inspect product preparation

Specify products, variants, images, categories and languages. Ask whether imports include data cleanup and error review. A spreadsheet import that produces incomplete products is not a finished catalogue.

Define who writes descriptions and supplies attributes. Agree a sample import and approval before the full transfer. This catches inconsistent sizes, missing images and category mistakes earlier.

Inspect transaction requirements

List payment methods, shipping rules and notification needs. Confirm which provider accounts and subscriptions you must arrange. Include failed payments, stock changes and cancelled orders in the test scope.

Delivery rules should reflect real destinations and product constraints. If there are pickup, bulky products or different carriers, specify them. The agency cannot guess your fulfilment process from a generic design brief.

Inspect handover and support

Ask for training in product changes, order handling and ordinary customer-service tasks. Separate defect fixes from feature additions. Clarify who updates the platform and extensions, and what support is available when a checkout problem occurs.

Include ownership, administrator access and export options. Identify costs for themes, apps, hosting and payments. Compare the first year and recurring costs, not just the build invoice.

Proposal checklist

  • Catalogue preparation and import acceptance.
  • Payments, shipping and stock tests.
  • Staff training and ongoing responsibilities.
  • Clear exclusions, licences and support terms.

Ask each provider to quote the same workflow. The stronger proposal makes responsibilities and acceptance checks visible, even when it recommends a simpler store.

A brief you can use to compare proposals

Use the following as an illustrative procurement check, not a promise of results or a fixed package. Ask the provider to turn it into named deliverables, exclusions and a test you can witness before accepting the work.

Give every agency the same product count, payment methods, shipping rules and catalogue migration sample.

A published example to inspect

A calm, editorial website for a beauty studio, bringing natural sugaring, manicure services and booking into one coherent experience. Visitors can compare treatments and prices, understand sugaring, explore the studio and continue to booking from clearly placed calls to action.

Inspect the project: Maison Lumia

This published example illustrates presentation and visitor flow. It is not evidence of a conversion uplift, a ranking position or a price for your own project. Compare the scope you need with the capabilities actually demonstrated, then ask what would be different for your business.

Primary reference

Shopify Help Center. Use the reference to check terminology and platform requirements when briefing a provider; the proposal still needs to define your own implementation and responsibilities.
